The ECIU cooperation
ECIU – European Consortium of Innovative Universities
Since 1997 AAU has been involved in the ECIU consortium together with a number of European universities. ECIU was established in 1997 with a view to strengthening the strategic cooperation of the members within research, education and regional development.
Reasons for AAU membership of ECIU
AAU's participation in this network cooperation reflects the view of the university management that internationalisation and international interaction constitute important possibilities for further development of AAU activities. Read more about the reasons for AAU membership of ECIU.
In our present-day knowledge society, which is characterised by for instance early obsolescence of knowledge and constant change, it is vital that the university is able to draw new inspiration and knowledge from international partners.
ECIU focus areas
ECIU members have several common characteristics. As suggested by the name of the consortium, the universities make a great effort to secure an innovative culture at their institutions, by for instance:
- developing and implementing new learning styles and research methods
- experimenting with new management styles
- nurturing internationally inclined staff
- offering quality teaching with a European perspective.
At the same time, the universities in ECIU are comparatively young institutions with a strong entrepreneurial culture and close contacts to industry and regional institutions.
ECIU has decided to concentrate its activities within three areas:
- ECIU Graduate School
- Student and staff mobility
- Regional development
