Become a Creative Genius in your field of study · 24. September 2012
From September 2013, a new opportunity will become available for students to specialise further in their fields during their 9th semester. The opportunity allows students to gain 30 ECTS through Aalborg University’s Creative Genius semester.
During this semester, students will not be taught theories from their respective fields of study (e.g. math, economics or communication). Instead, students will learn how to become a creative genius within their field.
The Creative Genius semester is an opportunity for students from all disciplines and from all over the world. It is an international cross-disciplinary semester with focus on creativity, originality and making an impact within your field. This semester combines theory with practice by introducing into the schedule actual training of human abilities in creativity, innovation and originality. It is about understanding how to be creative and how to make an impact in your field, but more importantly - it is about training in becoming more creative, innovative and original as a person. The hope is to provide the students with a foundation through which they can contribute with new theoretical insight and/or new practices within their respective fields of study.
The Creative Genius semester introduces a brand new method of study at Aalborg University which is a further development of the well-known study method problem based learning (PBL). This method of study is developed with a view to creating a more involving study environment with new elements such as a training centre in creativity every morning, individual projects in collaboration with the entire class instead of traditional group work as well as regulated process procedures to name a few.
For most students, the Creative Genius semester will be an alternative to an internship or other unscheduled semesters. The Creative Genius semester can be followed at any semester from the 7th to the 10th at any Master’s programme, provided that the respective board of study allows for it. In order to be accepted into the Creative Genius semester, students must hold a bachelor’s degree.
