Description

Description

"This summer course will investigate the different ways feminist political philosophy has been conceptualized and articulated. In the beginning of the 1980s and 1990s the discussion within feminist philosophy was dominated by a polarization between universalistic egalitarianism and a politics of identity and difference. It newer approaches the complexity of structural oppression of women, the entanglement with other categories such as ethnicity and class, and subtle limitations to women’s life that have their root in a deeper logic of gender ascriptions became more important. Queer theories and the more fundamental questioning of gender as a useful category as such have arisen and have contributed to recent political philosophy. The course will look into the different conceptualizations and articulations of feminist political philosophy with four major topics:

  • Feminist political philosophy and the question of universalism and impartiality
  • Feminist political philosophy and psychoanalysis
  • Feminist political philosophy and post-colonialism
  • Feminist political philosophy: what are legitimate subjects and how to approach them?" (.....)
