HOW IS YOUR TYPICAL WORKDAY?
Every day differs from the other, bringing new diverse things in my life. Generally, I start my day with a short run that clears my mind. Hence, I can have an unblemished perspective and coop with any type of stressful tasks that might occur during the day. My working schedule consists of 5 working days per week, going in with one or more goals everyday based on priority. Apart from that, whenever I seize the moment I enjoy my free time with my friends or doing activities that involve teamwork or strategic thinking.
HOW CLOSE IS YOUR CAREER PATH TODAY TO YOUR IDEAS AND DREAMS FROM YOUR TIME AT AAU?
My dreams were not far from where I am now. Today, I am a happy international graduate, working in an enriching and pleasant working environment that sustains both my professional development and personal working-life balance. I did not desire any specific position, as I considered that I should not narrow my future options right from the beginning of my “real life”. Thus, I took advantage of the offered opportunities, and I like to think that I chose the best of them.
HOW MUCH DO YOU USE YOUR EDUCATION AND THE PARTICULAR AAU COMPETENCES IN YOUR DAILY WORK?
Graduating from a university does not grant you with key tools that can immediately bring you success. However, studying at AAU through PBL model (a very practically oriented and close to real life problem solving methods) has instilled my leadership skills, a life-long work ethic and a global perspective. This improved my problem solving ways to apply theory in my daily work and implanted new aspects and ideas to support the creativity of my working team.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN YOUR PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES?
I remember leaving university and thinking that exams and assessments were stressful and awful. Well, it doesn't take long to realize that the workplace can be an equally intense and competitive learning environment. As employees we are being judged on our capabilities and benchmarked against our peers. And, unlike studying for a qualification, the goalposts in the workplace keep moving. Therefore, I strive to continuously update myself by reading professional journals, books, research papers, and articles or by leveraging knowledge with other departments and even customers, and suppliers.
WHAT EXCITING PROJECTS OR COMPANIES THAT YOU COOPERATED WITH DO YOU RECALL FROM YOUR TIME AT AAU?
During my studies at AAU, we have been dealing with exciting projects for several important companies that act in today’s Danish business environment (i.e. Royal Greenland, Med24, and Applus+). Each project was designed in order to cover a topic and subject to our exams. Thus, we could design our own problem based on the company’s current status, which prepared us students for the real life business environment.
YOUR BEST MEMORY/MEMORIES FROM AAU?
Studying at AAU was a life changing experience. Every day was a new adventure that was completely different from my life at home. The environment is completely different from anything I had ever experienced. Although it was a challenge the barrier led to relationships and experiences that I will have forever. I came with just a suitcase, and left with some of my best friends.
IF YOU WERE TO CHOOSE YOUR EDUCATION TODAY, WOULD YOU THEN CHOOSE SOMETHING DIFFERENT?
I wouldn’t change any of my professional decisions. And I consider that studying International Business Economics have broadened my career chances. Hence, I was able to consider different career paths and be prepared to meet their requirements.
WHERE DOES YOUR PROFESSIONAL NETWORK DERIVE FROM? HOW MUCH OF IT IS FROM YOUR TIME AT AAU?
Nowadays network efficiency has an important impact on society. About mine, I would say that since I do not hold a long record of professional employments, my professional network is in its beginnings. Yet, I’ve always strived to take part to activities that could alter my future prospects, and the network gathered during my studies was a good starting point to start building up what will later be my cloud of information.
WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE?
For time being, I am happy with where I am, and what I have achieved so far. My dreams include professional achievements such as building myself as respectable person in a decision-making position. Yet, they are not limited to that, as I believe that small things make life great. Thus, I dream to live in a peaceful world together with my loved ones.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME AS PART OF BEING A STUDENT IN DENMARK AND PARTICULARLY IN AAU?
The biggest challenge for me was to adapt to a complete new lifestyle. Studying abroad gave me a new outlook and perception on life and other cultures around me. I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience a unique education abroad, too. Because meeting new people and making friends whose first language and background isn’t the same as yours helps you to grow and improve as person.
WHO DID YOU CHOOSE TO PASS THE BATON ON TO AND WHY?
I have chosen to pass the baton to Jovana Milic. She is a graduate of AAU in Environmental Studies: City and Sustainability – JEMES CISu and got a position in one of the leading European companies in the Consulting & Engineering Industry. For all that she achieved so far, I consider that she is a role model for other international students.
