ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, MASTER

A well-rounded and relevant education

Nadia Nordberg Nielsen, International Marketing, 2010-2012.

English

My name is Nadia Nordberg Nielsen and I graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Marketing from Aalborg University in 2012. I am from Denmark and studied at Aalborg University for five years and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Business Administration before starting my Master’s Degree.

Studying at IBC

The International Business Centre at Aalborg University is a very diverse place to study. You attend lectures and work with people from about 30 different countries, which can be both challenging but also very giving and it teaches you a lot of lessons that you don’t learn in a non-international environment. For example: you learn to handle the fact that all people do things differently and the way we do things in Denmark isn’t the only way.

I enjoyed studying International Marketing at IBC because I have known for years that Marketing was the field I wanted to enter and to work in. I specialized in digital marketing, which wasn’t what I originally wanted to specialize in, however I haven’t regretted it for one moment. Digital marketing is getting increasingly important and companies are starting to realize this fact more and more. Therefore, my education and specialization is very current and relevant today. In other words, choosing IBC provides you with a well-rounded and relevant education where the newest theories and trends are taught.

The international environment at IBC also brings friends from all over the world into your life. The IBC is a very social place to study where the students get together and party after school, which I believe is a very important part of being a student. I also experienced that this was very important for the international students who didn’t know anyone when they came to Aalborg to study.

My first job

After I finished my Master’s thesis and graduated with my Master’s Degree I was hired at IBC as a Research Assistant where I have worked for the past 17 months. I have had the responsibility for writing a white paper about digital marketing for SME’s in Northern Jutland and I have dealt with a wide range of administrative and writing tasks.

I was also in charge of the re-launch of IBC’s new web page (which you are currently browsing through) together with a student assistant. We rewrote all the content, coordinated the production of two study programme videos and managed a series of photo-shoots wherein all the staff members and a few ambitious students were photographed. We did this with the aim to bring IBC closer to those who search for us online from other corners of the world. We have reworked the entire page in a new design to fit it in AAU’s new web design template.

All in all I have had a variety of different tasks that have taught me a lot of different things and given me the opportunity to use a range of the competencies I acquired through my studies.

What lies in the future for me is still unknown, however, I’m sure that my job at IBC has given me solid knowledge and experience that I can use in my future career.

Dansk
