Admission to the master's programme in Lighting Design requires documented knowledge of Mathematics equivalent to at least Mathematics B level and one of the following degrees, among others:

Bachelor's degrees within architecture, design, sustainable design, structural engineering and building design may also qualify for the postgraduate programme in Lighting Design. If your bachelor's degree does not immediately qualify for the master's programme in Lighting Design, your application will be assessed by the Study Board of Media Technology.

The postgraduate programme in Lighting Design is subject to restricted admission.The programme expects to offer 26 student places.
Screening of applications is based on the following criteria in order of priority:
- Grades obtained on completed semesters of the undergraduate programme at the time of assessment.
- A one-page motivational letter by the applicant describing the applicant’s motivation for studying Lighting Design at AAU and the applicant’s knowledge of the programme. In particular, the letter should describe why the applicant is interested in the field of lighting and specifically in the transdisciplinary approach of this programme. It should also describe how the applicant’s academic background can be used for lighting design, and how the other fields that are covered by the programme can add to the competences of students.
- Relevant, verifiable extra-curricular activities, e.g. craftsman training, work experience within IT and / or design, preferably and especially within the building sector or lighting companies.
Students who already have a postgraduate degree are normally only eligible for enrolment on a new postgraduate programme if available places are offered. In case of unusual circumstances, postgraduates may apply for dispensation. Documentation for the given unusual circumstances must be submitted together with your application.
