Invitation to Power-to-X workshop: niche markets and incentive structures in Denmark

The workshop analyses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Power-to-X in Denmark in order to investigate on niche markets and suggestions for incentive structures and public regulation to push the development further.

Time

24.03.2020 kl. 13.00 - 16.00

Description

Power generated from wind turbines and solar power covered 49% of the Danish electricity consumption in 2019, which is a new record. In the light of national targets, the future Danish electricity system will be based on an even higher amount of variable renewable energy sources. This calls for large-scale energy storage technologies that convert and store excess electricity as hydrogen or methane (Power-to-Gas). The stored gas can be further converted to liquid electrofuels for the transportation sector, or sold to other high value markets (Power-to-X). The EP2Gas project explores one of the most promising routes for Power-to-Gas: combining high temperature electrolysis based on the solid oxide electrolysis cell technology, thermal gasification of biomass, and downstream upgrade of the synthesis gas to methane. In order to design large-scale Power-to-X plants for electrofuel production and identify niche markets and required incentive structures for a future fossil-free Danish energy system taking advantage of this technology, we welcome researchers and practitioners from Denmark to participate in the workshop.

The project EP2Gas is funded by EUDP.
