Ph.d. defense John Kerr White
John Kerr White, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, AAU, will defend his thesis on "Microorganisms in Occupational Settings - Working towards an evaluation of exposure risks during work with animals".
09.11.2020 kl. 10.00 - 13.00
Microorganisms in Occupational Settings - Working towards an evaluation of exposure risks during work with animals.
Pig farmers are exposed to high concentrations of potentially pathogenic airborne bacteria and fungi during their work day. Despite this, a comprehensive risk assessment strategy for assessing these workers’ total microbial exposure is not available. Therefore, this Ph.D. project raises new points for consideration when performing such occupational risk assessments. These include understanding which species of airborne fungus are alive and where they might deposit in the lungs, in addition to whether workers are exposed to antibiotic resistant pathogenic fungi.
