Medical Biotechnology

How can we develop methods for identification of microorganisms in the human body? What are the roles of proteins in infected tissue? And how can we manufacture therapeutic substances by means of proteins and microorganisms? By studying Medical Biotechnology, you can help find the answers to these questions.

Work with people, medicine and biotechnology

The Master's programme in Biotechnology with a specialisation in Medical Biotechnology offers you the opportunity to perform experimental work in the laboratories, and problem based group work. You get to work with people, medicine, and biotechnology, and you get the chance to immerse in subjects like medical microbiology, molecular methods in modern medicine, and manufacturing of biopharmaceutical products.

The specialisation provides you with knowledge within areas such as cellular and molecular biology, protein biotechnology, bioinformatics and genetic engineering and. You gain the skills to evaluate and select among the scientific theories, methods, tools, and general skills of biotechnology, and establish new analysis and solution models on a scientific basis.

As a graduate in Biotechnology with a specialisation in Medical Biotechnology, you are able to carry out research and development in the processes, development and quality analyses of recombinant products, modified proteins and pharmaceutical products, following GLP and GMP principles and proper safety regulations

PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL)

Aalborg University is famous for its problem based learning where you work in a team on a large written assignment often collaborating with an industrial partner. This study method is also called “The Aalborg Model for Problem Based Learning”. The method is highly recognised internationally, and the university is host to a successful UNESCO chair in Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education and a Centre for PBL and Sustainability approved by UNESCO.

The problem based project work at Aalborg University gives you a unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge and competences at a high academic level in an independent manner. You get to apply theory to practice when you work to solve real-life problems, and you will be well prepared for your future career. Learn more about PBL.

TEAMWORK

When doing project work, you work closely in groups with other students. This gives you the opportunity to cooperate, share knowledge and to explore larger and more complex academic problems than what you would have been able to do on your own. Furthermore, the groups serve a social purpose and make it easier for you to get to know your fellow students and feel more at home at the university. Learn more about group work at AAU.
