Faculties at AAU

Education and research at Aalborg University (AAU) are organised in five scientific main areas (faculties). Each faculty is headed by a dean. The academic environments at the faculties are organised in departments, schools and centres. As a result of the University's focus on interdisciplinarity, a number of these units belong under two or more faculties.

The research and educational field of the Faculty of Humanities at AAU comprises communication, learning, languages, literature, philosophy, globalisation, psychology and music.

The Faculty of Engineering and Science

The research and educational field of the Faculty of Engineering and Science at AAU ranges from classic disciplines such as mathematics, chemistry and engineering to pioneer subjects such as nanotechnology and energy.

The Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at AAU provides a wide range of study programmes within all aspects of medical science, although with a particular focus on technology.

The Faculty works on improving health and welfare in close contact with the surrounding society.

Academic Councils at AAU

The Academic Councils at AAU are the advisory boards at faculties and at the Danish Building Research Institute (SBi). The Council is entitled to express its opinion on all academic issues of importance to the activities of the faculty/SBi and is obliged to discuss academic issues submitted to the Council by the Rector. Furthermore, the Academic Council is among other tasks responsible for awarding PhD and higher doctoral degrees.

Each Academic Council at faculty level is comprised of 15 or 8 members. The Dean is an ex-officio member, whereas remaining members shall be elected by and among the academic staff, including PhD fellows, and by and among the students in the ratio 5:2.

The Academic Council at SBi is comprised of 5 members. The Director is an ex-officio member of the Council, whereas remaining members shall be elected by and among the academic staff, including PhD fellows. Representatives of the academic staff are elected for four-year terms, and representatives of the students are elected for one-year terms.
