Aalborg University is among Europe’s best universities for producing research in engineering fields such as defence technology, cybersecurity, and sustainable energy systems. This is demonstrated by a new assessment in which AAU has once again been ranked among the top European engineering universities in the prestigious ranking recently published by U.S. News & World Report. This year, AAU is ranked fourth among all European universities.

"It’s a remarkable achievement that AAU once again ranks among Europe’s leading engineering universities. This is first and foremost due to our many talented researchers and students, who create outstanding results every day. At the same time, we are highly successful in working across disciplines and in close collaboration with companies and society to develop technologies that make a real difference," says Thomas Bak, Dean of the Faculty of IT and Design at AAU.

The top three universities in Europe in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities for Engineeringranking this year are ETH Zurich (Switzerland), Imperial College London (United Kingdom), and Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands).

A minor setback

For the past eight years, AAU has been ranked in the top three in Europe and has, for several years, even held the number one position. This time, however, the university has slipped off the podium. Nevertheless, the ranking is a recognition of the academic environment within AAU’s engineering programmes and confirms that AAU remains among the absolute elite of engineering universities.

"Competition at the international level is extremely close, and although we have dropped one place compared to last year, we have remained at the top for many years. This demonstrates that we are doing many things right in the long run, and we will continue to strengthen AAU’s strategic efforts to deliver engineering research and education of the highest calibre in Europe," says Jesper Wengel, Prorector for Research at Aalborg University.

Engineering sciences are represented across three of Aalborg University’s four faculties: the Faculty of IT and Design, the Faculty of Engineering and Science, and the Faculty of Medicine. This ranking is further evidence of the strong engineering research environment that spans much of Aalborg University.
