How did I become interested in my field of research?
My interest in this field emerged from a combination of spatial analysis, policy, and environmental work. Early in my life, I became fascinated by the connection between humans and nature. Working with spatial modelling tools showed me that research can directly inform real-world environmental decisions, which motivated me to focus on river restoration and conservation planning
What am I most passionate about in my work?
I am most passionate about doing applied research that actually helps practitioners make better decisions. I would like to create a bridge between science and society.
In the long term, what impact can my research have on society?
I hope my research contributes to more strategic and cost-effective restoration, helping ensure that limited resources produce the greatest ecological benefit. Better prioritization methods can support governments and organizations in restoring ecosystems while balancing social and economic realities.
What piece of advice would you pass on to future and current PhD students?
Build collaborations early, communicate your work as much as possible, and learn project-management skills. You got this!
What considerations should current and future PhD students have in relation to their future career?
Keep an open mind about career paths. The skills you gain during a PhD, like data analysis, communication, interdisciplinary thinking, or project management, are very valuable beyond academia
A little bit about the person behind the researcher?
I love creating community. If there is good food and good conversation, I will make sure to be there.
