Symposium on Artificial Life and Sustainable Complex Systems

We are excited to announce an upcoming event Artificial Nature Transposium: Transdisciplinary Symposium on Artificial Life and Sustainable Complex Systems, accompanied by a media art exhibition EDEN. The exhibition challenges normative perspectives on biological life, exploring alternative ways humans perceive and interact with other forms of living processes.

We are excited to announce an upcoming event Artificial Nature Transposium: Transdisciplinary Symposium on Artificial Life and Sustainable Complex Systems, accompanied by a media art exhibition EDEN. Organized by scholars and researchers from Aalborg University and the University of Southern Denmark, the one-day symposium will take place at the Musikkens Hus in Aalborg on 6 December 2024. The symposium is conducted in coordination with a public Art & Science exhibition that opens at Kunsthal Nord in Aalborg on December 6th and runs through December 13th. The exhibition challenges normative perspectives on biological life, exploring alternative ways humans perceive and interact with other forms of living processes.

The Artificial Nature Transposium (ANT) is a transdisciplinary symposium connecting researchers and industry leaders. ANT focuses on soft ALife (emergent AI, artificial life modeling), hard ALife (robotics and AI), wet ALife (synthetic biology, disease modeling), sustainability (ecosystem modeling), as well as the arts and design (music and architecture). This event aims to catalyze collaboration and dialogue between experts from fields spanning AI, robotics, synthetic biology, and bio-materials, with a core focus on the sustainable development of complex, technology-driven systems that enhance human-society-nature interactions.

The keynote speakers at the event are bioarchitecture visionaries Hanaa Dahy and Phil Ayres, and bio artist and researcher Fara Paluso. The transposium functions as a catalyst for transdisciplinary conversations across industry and academia, therefore panelists Jonas Jørgensen (SDU), Anca Horvath (AAU), Kresten Jon Korup Kromphardt (UNIBIO), and Kasper Lynov (Copenhagen Zoo) will take part in a plenary discussion “When Art and Science Meet”, moderated by Markus Löchtefeld (AAU).

You can find more details on the events at ANT and EDEN.

Registration is now open for all interested participants. The events are generously supported by the DDSA (Danish Data Science Academy), Region Nordjylland, and SparNord, and the AAU HumAI Cluster.

We have also opened a CFP for early-career researchers to submit abstracts for their research and partake in the poster session at the conference. Click here for more information and submission.

It would be of immense value if you help promote our event to your network. We will make sure to redistribute it on our networks and thus increase your visibility. Thank you in advance!
