Introduction to AI Techniques is a course from the 1st semester of the Master in Applied Statistics.

During the course, you will gain a foundation of knowledge and skills within AI techniques that will enable you understand and apply key theoretical concepts and practical methods techniques within AI and machine learning to data analysis.

The course will provide you with knowledge and skills within:

  • Computational-intensive techniques for evaluating models and estimation of variances (cross-validation and bootstrap) and has knowledge about the variance-bias trade-off
  • Understands the difference between supervised and unsupervised methods and between classification and regression
  • Machine Learning (ML) methods for classification (e.g., decision trees, k-nearest neighbours, and/or Bayesclassifiers) and clustering (e.g., k-means clustering and/or Gaussian mixtures)
  • Model averaging, bagging, and boosting as well as their impact on AI-driven predictive modelling
  • Being able to identify and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different AI and ML techniques in relation to a specific analysis task.
