    Internet

    All accommodations have internet access, most accommodations have wireless connexions. Many rooms in the centre have Wi-Fi but also cabled internet to secure a good connexion. You must expect to use cable only in some places. The Accommodation Office does not provide the cable. Cables can be purchased in most electric shops.

    In some places, it is only cable, and a router can be set up to have wifi. This must be done by the tenant and at their own expense. 

    The price for using the internet depends on the company that provides the service. The price for the internet is always included in the total rent.

    Repairs

    If repairs to plumbing etc. need to be made in your room or flat during your stay, you should contact the caretaker, who will do the repairs free of charge provided that the repair is a result of normal wear. Furniture, blinds etc. are managed by the accommodation office.

    Repairs In other Accommodation

    If you are living in private accommodation, you must contact the International Accommodation Office. The International Accommodation Office will then contact the owner or other relevant staff to find a solution to the problem. Please note, if there are more issues, you can find that it is a different person who does the repairs.

    If the repair is a result of normal wear, it will be free of charge. Otherwise, the amount will be deducted from your deposit.

    Disability

    If you have any special requirements regarding furniture due to e.g. disability, you must state this on the Application Form for Accommodation when you apply for accommodation. We recommend you to contact the Accommodation office with any special needs such as a wheelchair etc.

    Laundry

    All accommodation have access to laundry facilities close by the accommodation. The expenses for laundry service are not included in the rent but are accounted for each month. In most accommodation, the total sum for laundry will be deducted from your deposit. In some places, where you share 2 persons, laundry is divided in two, as bills come with the total rent.

    There are a few places where you will have to buy a laundry card, which you charge with money. 

    Where laundry is accounted for along with rent, laundry chips/cards will be handed out along with the keys for the accommodation. 

    The price for washing and drying varies from DKK 10.00 to DKK 20.00.

    Maintenance fee

    A maintenance fee is included in your rent, which includes furniture, painting and other normal wear.

    Rent increases

    Total rent is adjusted twice a year (each semester) according to the actual prices paid by Aalborg University and your tenancy agreement; this can be the actual rent, internet, water, heating etc. You will receive a letter along with the payment information when your payment is due.

    Allocation

    Please note, that you will only be allocated accommodation once by the International Accommodation Office.

    • For the summer semester the accommodation office starts the allocation in June and throughout the summer.
    • For the spring semester, the accommodation office starts the allocation in December.

    If you have moved in and decide to leave the accommodation, you will not receive any other accommodation offer by the International Accommodation Office and the rent you have paid will not be reimbursed.

    If you find accommodation by yourself, the University cannot help you with furniture and kitchen equipment. You should be aware that accommodation in Denmark is very seldom furnished.

    Relocation

    We cannot guarantee relocation e.g. closer to your faculty or cheaper accommodation. Relocation takes mostly place in the summer. Relocation is rarely offered in the spring semester due to the late departures and exames.

    The administration fee for relocation of DKK 500,00 will be deducted housing deposit on departure.

    If you wish a relocation, it must be stated in the form you will receive each semester. You must state that you are staying, and the wishes for the new accommodation. If we turn down the wishes for relocation, you will keep your current room.

    Prolongning my stay

    You will receive a letter each semester in April and November, where you have to state your departure date on a departure form.

    If your stay is prolonged by 6 months, you will receive a bill for the rent by ordinary mail, to be paid in the nearest bank or post office. The rent must be paid by the date stated on the giro in the payment card.

    Housing deposit

    The housing deposit is equal to approximately two months' rent. The prepaid deposit of DKK 2,000 is a part of the housing deposit. The remainder of the deposit must be paid before arrival, along with the rent. The calculation will appear in your housing offer. 

    The housing deposit will be refunded on departure and deducted from possible bills.

    Insurance

    The University does not have any insurance to cover any possible theft, fire etc. We strongly recommend that you take out adequate insurance while studying in Denmark. The following insurance coverage is recommended:

    • Third-party liability insurance (‘ansvarsforsikring’) – covering expenses if you have to pay compensation to another person
    • Accident insurance (‘ulykkesforsikring’) – covering the financial consequences of an accident
    • Home insurance (‘indboforsikring’) – for your personal belongings
    • Car insurance (‘bilforsikring’) – If you bring a car with you, please make sure it is properly insured. If you decide to take out the insurance in Denmark, try contacting some of the larger insurance companies. Their websites are in English.

    Traineeship/Internship

    If you are going on a traineeship or leaving your accommodation for several months, but need accommodation when you return to Aalborg, you must reapply for the accommodation again. The IAO cannot guarantee you the same room. If you are leaving for an internship, you have to reapply for the accommodation again. If you have special wishes you must state that in the application form. We cannot guarantee the same accommodation again
