A full-time programme of two years - a Master's programme as you know it now. 

Overall, this Master's is 120 ECTS credits. You complete the Master's programme with a Master’s thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

A Master's programme (erhvervskandidat) of approx. 1.5 - 4 years (75-120 ECTS credits) where you study and are in relevant part-time employment in parallel. 

You will receive a salary during the period, where you are employed - but not when you are a fulltime student.

The format of the programmes enables you to build up relevant work experience while studying at the Master's level. As a student, you will use your academic knowledge in practice and acquire competencies that support the transition from education to the labour market.

Different types of Master's degree programmes for working professionals (EKA)

1. Flexible Master’s degree programmes for working professionals (erhvervskandidat)
Master’s degree of 75-120 ECTS credits that are part-time programmes where you work part-time in a job that is relevant to your education while you are studying. You will be paid by your employer.

The Master’s degree of 75 ECTS credits concludes with a main paper of 15 ECTS credits, and the Master’s degree of 120 ECTS credits concludes with a Master's thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

2. "1+2" EKA (3-year Master's degree programme for working professionals)

All MSc Engineering programmes are offered partly as '1+2' Master’s degrees for working professionals at AAU. Master's degree for working professionals (erhvervskandidat) of 120 ECTS credits are targeted for Engineering and STEM/IT programmes, where you have:

• 1 year of full-time study (60 ECTS credits) and then 2 years in company activities where you study part-time (60 ECTS credits) and work part-time in a job that is relevant to your education. You will be paid by your employer.

You complete the Master’s degree of 120 ECTS credits with a Master's thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

3. Alternative combination Master's degree programme for working professionals (erhvervskandidat)

Alternative combination Master's programmes for working professionals of 75-120 ECTS credits.

The programmes are inspired by the "1+2" model, i.e. where:

• You take the first part of the programme full-time (30 ECTS credits).
• You will take the rest of the programme part-time (45-90 ECTS credits) while working part-time in a job that is relevant to your education. You will be paid by your employer.

The Master’s degree of 75 ECTS credits concludes with a main paper of 15 ECTS credits, and the Master’s degree of 120 ECTS credits concludes with a Master's thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

• A full-time programme of approx. 1 year where you have the opportunity to receive SU (state eduction grant). You conclude the programme with a main paper of 15 ECTS credits.
• All MSc (Tech) programmes are converted to 75-ECTS credit programmes at AAU.
• As of 2028, 10% of Master's students will be admitted to Master’s programme of 75 ECTS credits.Et fuldtidsstudie på ca. 1 år, hvor du har mulighed for at få SU. Du afslutter med en hovedopgave på 15 ECTS.

Quality improvement for Master's degree programmes of 75 ECTS credits

75-ECTS credit programmes receive a higher taximeter for quality improvement.

A taximeter increase means that a programme is allocated more funding per student from the state. It is a political decision that is used to strengthen certain degree programmes.

In AAU's development of the new 75-ECTS Master's degree programmes, the quality improvement can be based on:

• Increased contact between students and teaching staff, for example more teaching hours, individual feedback, smaller classes or involvement in practice.
• Strong didactic competences, for example upgrading teacher qualifications, developing new forms of learning, or involving and activating forms of organization.
• Better well-being and a good study environment, for example extra activities at the study start or activities that support the physical, social and learning conditions.
