- We look forward to working in the new HEALTH building. To being close to the students and researchers, and pass on knowledge to the academic environments, says Sabine Dreier from Aalborg University Library, which opens a new library branch in the AAU HEALTH building at Selma Lagerlöfs Vej 249 in Gistrup.
The university library has many relevant offers to both user groups in terms of instruction, sparring, thematic meetings, practical advice on information searching and use of the university library's extensive electronic collections.
In relation to the researchers, we primarily assist with information search, search strategy, and identification of relevant search terms and databases. The library's information specialists can, to a greater or lesser extent, act as information professional partners in relation to the researchers.
- We often get to follow research projects in a different way than student projects. Research projects span a longer period of time and give us the opportunity to get close to the academic environments, says Sabine Dreier.
- In relation to the students, it is first and foremost important that they get to know us. To meet them on their own turf, with the information needs they have, says Mette Grundsøe.
She elaborates:
- We help them find the needle in the haystack, so to speak. Make a search strategy and give them tools to assess the relevance of their searches. Being able to validate the quality of a search is so important in a time were both scientific and unscientific sources are right at your fingertips.
More information
The health sciences are among the scientific disciplines that are major consumers of the library's electronic collections. Therefore, the new HEALTH branch is bookless, except for a small study collection with high-frequency material.
The books are not for loan, but can be requested as a loan copy from the main branch at Kroghstræde 3. Students and staff can choose the branch library as pick-up point for physical material, and use the self-service machine for checkout and return.
The new library branch is located in room 11.01.036, where you can meet the library staff on weekdays between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm. The room can also be used as a group room on weekdays, public holidays, and on weekends after 3.30 pm.
Library instruction for students, and library meetings with researchers, can be booked on the library's website www.en.aub.aau.dk, or by sending an email directly to the SUND team at sund@aub.aau.dk. Library instructions and -meetings are usually set to last one hour.
