CIU website for registration, maximum age 35. Create a user name and code to log in. CIU home page is in Danish, use a translator or get support from our manual to register in English here.

Make sure that your desired date for moving is set to either the 1st or 15th of a month in their application system.
If you wish to move in at the study start we recommend setting it to either August 1st or August 15th as many dorms have a 15 days renovation period. This means that your contract starts the 1st or 15th of August but you are first allowed to occupy the room 15 days after (August 15th or September 1st). Check and ask about the moving in date when you receive an offer for a room.
Your desired date for moving in can be up to 3 months before your studies begin.
TIPS:
KKIK has published detailed information about the application process on their website in English.
IMPORTANT
To increase your chances to get a room at the study start, you should apply in the surrounding areas of Copenhagen (outside the centre).
You should also get acquainted with the conditions for flexible rental ("fleksibel udlejning"), read more here: https://international.kk.dk/artikel/find-your-home-copenhagen,
and the nomination criteria of KKIK (direct link to KKIK's point system).
Make sure also to mark your desired moving in date with either the 1st or 15th of the month.
When you’ve registered on KKIK and S.dk and selected all options for their student housing properties (particularly those with the shortest waiting lists), you’ll receive a room offer via email as soon as a room becomes available according to the waiting lists. This process may take between 1 to 6 months—or even longer if you haven’t opted for the properties with the shortest waiting lists.
Once you receive an offer, it is crucial that you respond promptly to their email. As affordable student housing is in high demand, we advise you to accept the offer. If you decline two offers, you will lose your position on the waiting list and be moved to the end of the queue.
Contracts: KKIK and CIU provide temporary rental contracts. Make sure to read them carefully and return them signed. Since the contract is in Danish, you can use an online translator or find translated versions online (standard Danish contracts).
DEPOSIT: You will need to pay a deposit upfront. Usually 2 or 3 months rent plus possibly some pre-paid rent. When you move out again there will be an inspection of the room and parts of the room will be renovated. It is a standard procedure that these documented expenses will be withdrawn from your paid deposit. The rest of the deposit will be returned to you. Make sure to leave the room in a clean and good state as to minimize the costs of renovation. Inquire at the inspector what is expected of you and read your contract carefully.
RENT: Rental costs vary depending on the housing properties. For more information about their rental prices, visit the KKIK and CIU websites.
The total rent is regulated each semester. Please inquire directly at KKIK and CIU for more details.
FURNITURE: most student housing through KKIK and CIU S.dk has no furniture. You will need to buy basic furniture upon arrival at your accommodation: a bed, matress, table, chair, lamp, etc. please calculate for this in your budget!
The privately owned student halls often have or can include basic furniture in the contracts (for an extra fee). If you rather wish to rent a furnished studio - please go to the section "other student halls" where you can read more about these options. Prices are higher but comfort will usually also be higher.
TERMINATING THE LEASE: If you wish to terminate your lease, you can do it online or by contacting KKIK / CIU. Usually there's a period-of-notice of three months. So please take care to start the procedure in time.
Please inquire directly at KKIK and CIU for more details.

When you receive an offer for an accommodation by KKIK or CIU, it is extremely important that you respond to it. If you reject an offer or don't reply, you will automatically become passive and cannot receive any offers for 4 weeks.
Registration of your new address
Your new address is stated in your rental contract. Please contact the International House in Copenhagen to register your new address. If you have been living in Denmark before and had registered your previous address, you must register your new address online at www.borger.dk or ask the International House for assistance.
Moving in date
Almost all rooms through KKIK and CIU have a renovation period, usually 14 days. Be sure to review your contract for specific procedures. Sometimes, the renovation period occurs at the beginning of the contract, other times it happens before your contract ends. This means that you pay for the whole month but either can move in 14 days after or have to move out 14 days before the contract ends.
Keys to your room
Find all information regarding the pick up of your keys, date and procedures in the contract that you signed, and/or the information you received from KKIK and CIU.
Please bring or mail a receipt of your deposit and rent payment when picking up your key.
Remeber to bring or buy
Remember that you will need to organize your arrival at an unfurnished room:
Basic furniture
Sheets
Duvet/blanket
Pillow
Bed/mattress linen
Towels
etc.
The University does not have any insurance to cover any possible theft, fire etc. We strongly recommend that you take out adequate insurance while studying in Denmark. The following insurance coverage is recommended:
Third-party liability insurance (‘ansvarsforsikring’) – covering expenses if you have to pay compensation to another person
Accident insurance (‘ulykkesforsikring’) – covering the financial consequences of an accident
Home insurance (‘indboforsikring’) – for your personal belongings
Car insurance (‘bilforsikring’) – If you bring a car with you, please make sure it is properly insured. If you decide to take out the insurance in Denmark, try contacting some of the larger insurance companies. Their websites are in English.
When planning to move out, you must notify KKIK or CIU, typically at least three months in advance. This helps avoid paying double rent if your new contract overlaps with the old one.
Be sure to review your contract for specific moving-out procedures. Sometimes, the renovation period occurs at the beginning of the contract, but often it happens before the contract ends.
For instance, if your contract ends on July 31st, you may need to vacate the room 15 days earlier. Prepare for this in advance by checking your contract or contacting KKIK or CIU directly.
