Artificial intelligence has entered the world of education, but for many it is still unclear what to make of it. What can text generation tools like ChatGPT be used for in the context of teaching? And how do you go about using it?
To address the trend and create a framework for students' academic development, AAU is now launching two new learning resources on generative AI for students. An AAU Micro module entitled 'Introduction to Generative AI and ChatGPT' and a theme on Aalborg University Library's (AUB) website on good scientific practice and practical, source-critical use for finding information and knowledge.
On 1 September, AAU Micro launched the module 'Introduction to Generative AI and ChatGPT'. The new module aims to help AAU students understand basic principles and practical applications of generative AI.
- We have developed this AAU Micro module on generative AI with the clear goal of elevating our students' educational experience on several levels. By equipping our students with this knowledge, we give them a valuable competence boost, which is necessary from an employability perspective, says Olav Geil, Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Engineering and Science.
Generative AI influences our ways and perceptions of how we access, apply and produce knowledge and information. So, AUB has launched a number of new websites that are intended as a comprehensive approach to good scientific practice around generative AI – with a particular focus on its use for information retrieval. For example, the pages also provide advice on good prompts, and they are based on the principles of good scientific practice – including integrity, source criticism, etc.
Both the AAU Micro and AUB sites are developed for teaching staff at AAU. They can be used as a syllabus or supplementary reading, and they can support teaching the basic principles and concepts of generative AI. They are also suitable for making students aware of the advantages and disadvantages of using generative AI in their studies.
The work of informing and updating all teaching staff about generative AI and its importance for teaching at AAU is ongoing and constantly evolving. Information about new initiatives will be presented on AAU Update on an ongoing basis, so keep checking back.
