"The collaboration with Aalborg University enables us to constantly be relevant and at the forefront of the market", says Director Henrik Stærmose, Neogrid Technologies A/S. The company is one of many that Aalborg University works with in nine different sustainability areas, and which now features in a new series of videos.

By David Graff, Dean’s Office, ENGINEERING. Translated by LeeAnn Iovanni, AAU Communication

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, ENGINEERING, researchers are focusing their efforts on nine sustainability areas. These areas include, for example, the conversion of agriculture, green food, as well as circular production and biodiversity, and the partnering companies play a key role.

We have a strong focus on sustainability because we want to contribute to the green transition and other major challenges in society. We have a long tradition of this at the faculty, and it’s important for us to involve companies so that sustainable solutions are developed in conjunction with the surrounding society.

JOHN K. PEDERSEN, PRO-DEAN FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION, FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE

For the benefit of all

Collaborating with companies ensures research that is relevant and applicable in practice. Companies gain the latest, research-based knowledge for their product development. And society reaps the fruits of increasingly green energy consumption, sustainable cities and buildings, welfare technology that makes life easier, etc.

What is really so essential in a multi-partner collaboration is the access to each other's competencies. Aalborg University also benefits enormously from our being involved because we have competencies in using a material and in what it takes for it to be usable.

PREBEN JAKOBSEN, CHIEF ENGINEER, GRUNDFOS A/S

According to Pro-dean John K. Pedersen, the sustainability areas and the business collaboration are expressions of the spirit at Aalborg University. We have a clear, mission-based desire to play an active role in partnership with the business community in influencing climate change, the biodiversity crisis, etc. This is formulated in the university's strategy and also stems from our long-standing research tradition.

And if you ask the companies, it is exactly this approach that is a special strength of Aalborg University:

There are companies that want to be in Aalborg so they can be in biking distance of a facility like Aalborg University.

Kjartan Ross, COO, Port of Aalborg
