Quantum computers execute a new generation of algorithms - quantum algorithms - which differ fundamentally from classical computer algorithms. This leads to new challenges and requires a new generation of software engineers. At AAU, we are developing methods and tools to support these engineers in analyzing quantum algorithms. Our research is rooted in strong theories from computer science, optimization, and signal processing, and covers both theoretical questions and practical applications.

Quantum information acts differently to classical information, and this opens new ways to communicate. For instance, methods like superdense coding and quantum teleportation rely on quantum entanglement to transmit classical and quantum bits, respectively. Further development of such methods is an important step towards the quantum internet.

Research in quantum control is advancing two directions of quantum computing: the construction of quantum computers, and optimization. Currently, quantum control research at AAU encompasses several key areas, including the use of feedback mechanisms in quantum computing, the estimation of quantum states and parameters, as well as the implementation of optimization and machine learning algorithms through quantum computing platforms.
