The Master's programme in Industrial Design at Aalborg University focuses on an integrated process of concept design, construction and product development. Aesthetical competencies and creativity in the design development process are combined with knowledge of construction, product development, ergonomics, materials, environment, design management and economy.

The Industrial Design projects are often done in collaboration with different companies, as design engineers should be able to understand the progress in a strategic perspective from the company’s angle.

During the Master's programme you will meet a wide range of teachers who will present you with new knowledge in key areas. The programme is internationally oriented, and attracts Danish as well as international students. Furthermore the educational programme offers the opportunity of an internship or/and an external study as well as study trips inside and outside Denmark during the semester.

From idea to market

With a Master's degree in Industrial Design you will gain an understanding of product design and business perspectives. You will be capable of combining solutions and products that are innovative as well as functional.

The combination of business understanding, analytical skills, aesthetic and technical knowledge and competences within concept development and leadership will enable you to develop products and services - from idea to production and marketing. You will become an expert in managing and structuring projects in all phases.

Academic content

The master’s programme in Industrial Design at Aalborg University, Denmark is divided into four semesters running from September to January respectively and from February to June (January and June partly reserved for exams). Thus, students will typically complete the programme in 2 years.

Each semester in Industrial Design is sub divided into three or four course modules and one project module. All courses are conducted in English. Below you will get a quick overview of the Industrial Design programme.

Traineeship

Studying Industrial Design at Aalborg University in Denmark you are able to undertake an internship or an external study on 3rd semester, MSc03.

Internship as industrial design student from AAU

An internship gives you the opportunity to collaborate with a company, institution, etc. regarding your project work. Furthermore an internship gives you the opportunity to use the theoretical skills you have acquired during MSc01 and MSc02 hands on.

External study as industrial design student from AAU

You can also choose to do an external study at another university in Denmark or at a university outside Denmark. The courses followed at the foreign university have to be approved by the Board of Studies as an integrated part of your education at Architecture & Design (in the form of credit transfer).

Industrial Design combines such skills as creativity, engineering and team work. This combination gives the student the opportunity to influence in which direction he/she wish to head.
