Working group for AI in education

The Working Group for AI in Education was established by Det strategiske uddannelsesråd to strengthen collaboration and coordination among the units at Aalborg University that work with AI support in relation to education. The group’s work is anchored in the university’s strategy Knowledge for the World, particularly goal 5.4 concerning a strategic framework for AI in education.

The working group aims to:

  • Coordinate and lead strategic AI projects related to AAU’s educational area.
  • Create an overview of ongoing and upcoming AI initiatives.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and a unified direction in AI-related projects.
  • Ensure visibility and accessibility of AI resources and services.
  • Support optimal utilization of the university’s competencies and infrastructure.

Initiatives of the working group

Joint Introduction to AI in Education

How can generative AI be meaningfully introduced in a study and learning context for students? This is a challenge for many educators and supervisors at the university. In several places, slide decks have been developed that can be used by a broader group of teaching staff. We aim to develop a unified AAU package that educators and supervisors across the university can use as a starting point when introducing students to the use of generative AI.

Survey on generative AI in education

Questionnaires will be distributed on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, to all students and educators.
The survey has been developed in close collaboration with representatives from relevant departments, and with input from researchers who have worked in the field.

The survey will serve as a foundation for future work with AI in education and ensures that our strategy is driven by needs and data.

Theme Day on AI and Education for Students

A theme day on AI in education for students will be held on Thursday, November 20, from 09:30 to 11:30.
The event will be held online to ensure participation from students across AAU’s three campuses.
The theme day will generate video material that can be integrated into the communication efforts around AI in education and provide long-term value.

Communication on AI and education

Students must learn to use generative AI within the framework of their study programmes while also gaining AI competencies relevant to their field.
The communication effort should encourage experimentation and exploration (AI literacy) and shift the focus from “you must not” to “you may” — supported by good examples and AI as a learning companion.
To ensure the correct use of generative AI in academic settings, educators must be equipped to support and answer questions. This requires both professional development for educators and clear communication about usage, frameworks, and misuse.
