The Master's in Architecture is internationally oriented, and classes are conducted in English. The programme is based on environmentally and socially sustainable architecture as well as tectonic design, that is, the distinctive design of material and structural elements. You will learn to combine aesthetic, technical and functional energy and comfort parameters during the design process to create architecture with a good indoor climate and low environmental impact. We work with both physical and virtual models, utilising the possibilities offered by modern technology to create new architecture. The aim is to train you to combine architectural design and aesthetics with the technical expertise from the engineering profession.

You will learn to design the buildings of tomorrow and gain vast technical knowledge of structures, material consumption, energy, resources, environment and indoor climate. With a Master’s in Architecture, you will be able to visualise interesting and functional spaces and buildings and develop the technical principles required to realise architectural projects within defined economic, technical and environmental frameworks.   

You will have an eye for the connections between space and construction, as well as the aesthetic possibilities of the technical solutions that are necessary for people to use, live in and feel comfortable in a space. During group projects with your fellow students, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with companies and institutions. This allows you to work with real-life cases and build your network. It also gives you experience with cross-disciplinary and intercultural collaboration and project management skills. 

In the Master’s programme in Architecture, we combine skills such as creativity, engineering and teamwork. This allows you to tailor your career path going forward. The combination of the architect’s design expertise and the engineer’s professionalism qualifies you for jobs in private architectural companies, consulting engineering companies, public institutions, the entrepreneurial environment as well as research and teaching.

Project: Sustainable-Tectonic Architecture: Integrating Social Sustainability and Climate Impact (20 ECTS)

Course: Advanced Integrated Design I: Sustainable-tectonic Design with Integrating of Structure, Site and Climate Conditions (5 ECTS)

Course: Advanced Integrated Design II: Green Building Strategies with Focus on Energy and Emission Assessment (5 ECTS)

Project: Explorations and Experiments in Sustainable-Tectonic Architectural Design (20 ECTS)

2 courses: Advanced Integrated Design III. You must choose 2 of the following electives* (10 ECTS):

• Critical-experimental Studies in Computation and Performance-aided Design to Support Sustainable-tectonic Design Thinking
• Critical-experimental Studies in Acoustics and Materiality to Support Sustainable-tectonic Design Thinking
• Critical-experimental Studies in Life Cycle Assessment and Materiality to Support Sustainable-tectonic Design Thinking
• Critical-experimental Studies in Social Sustainability, Health and Wellbeing to Support Sustainable-tectonic Design Thinking.

Project: Independent Choice: Research, Practice or Development in Architectural Design-engineering (25 ECTS)

Course: You must choose 1 of the following electives* (5 ECTS):

• Academic Paper Writing
• Advanced Integrated Design IV: Extended Construction Management, Project Design and Life Cycle Cost Estimates.

An internship gives you the opportunity to collaborate with a company, institution, etc. regarding your project work. Furthermore an internship enables you to use the theoretical skills you have acquired during Msc01 and Msc02 hands on.

You can also choose to do an external study at another university in Denmark or at a university outside Denmark. The courses followed at the foreign university have to be approved by the Board of Studies as an integrated part of your education at Architecture & Design (in the form of credit transfer).

With a Master in Engineering Architecture you will have a well-rounded set of skills. The combination of the architect’s design expertise and the engineer’s professionalism makes you highly qualified to undertake a wide range of positions:

When doing project work, you work closely in groups with other students. This gives you the opportunity to cooperate, share knowledge and to explore larger and more complex academic problems than what you would have been able to do on your own.
