Creating a Circular Plastics Economy

The transition from a linear plastics economy to a circular system requires substantial changes to supply chains and the individual firms along that supply chain.

1. Circular transition at the firm level

At the Center for Industrial Production, we are researching how firms can best tackle this transition. Specifically, we research how to organize supply chains and logistics for a circular plastic economy, and how manufacturers can transform their operations to enable more circular business models.

At AAU Business School we research in sustainable business models and collaborations around circular plastics.

At the Department for Sustainability and Planning, we are researching the transition towards circular plastic at the industry level, investigating how partners across the value chain in the fishery industry can work together to enable a more circular use of plastics – and thereby reducing plastic waste in the ocean.

2. Circular transition at the societal level

At the Departments of Culture and Learning as well as Planning, we have focused on consumer behaviour and acceptance, sustainable design and planning and preparedness for the green transition including the plastic industry.
